FAQs

All tours will be run safely  and in compliance with Welsh Government Covid-19 guidelines. Please contact us if you have any queries.

What is a food tour?
Our Loving Welsh Food (LWF) tours include food and drink tastings and information about Welsh and international cuisine. Our LWF guides also share their stories about the city of Cardiff, Welsh culture and the landmarks that we pass on the tour.

Can I book a private group tour?
Yes. We can tailor a private tour to suit your needs, by customizing length, start times, distance and number of tasting locations.

How do I buy tickets? Can I pay by cash?
Tickets for regular (public) tours can be purchased through our website.
Booking deadline 24 hours before the tour.
We advise our guests to book well in advance.  If you miss the booking deadline for a tour, it is always worth giving us a call to see if there are any free spaces. Payment needs be made before the tour.
Private tours – tickets for private tours can be purchased by contacting us.

Do you accommodate allergies and dietary preferences?
We do our best to accommodate the special dietary needs of our guests, however we can’t guarantee all stops will be able to do so. The booking process allows you to identify common dietary needs/preferences (eg. vegetarian, gluten-free, nut-free), and we aim to offer alternatives where possible. If you have life-threatening allergies it is not recommended you take our tours. Please contact us prior to booking your tour to see if we are able to accommodate your dietary needs.

How much food is served on the tour?

The Cardiff Tasting Tour includes 5 tastings, including 1 glass of Welsh cider/lager leaving room for lunch afterwards. The City of Arcades Food Experience and Welsh Food Tour include 7 tasting venues which in total equal a good-sized lunch and include 2 glasses of wine/cider/lager.   You definitely won’t need lunch afterwards.
The Cardiff Lunch & Landmarks Tour includes tea & cake, a warm welshcake and a 2 course lunch with a glass of Welsh ale/cider.

Is there alcohol served during the tour?
Yes, there are alcoholic drink samples served on our tours. A few of our tasting venues provide glasses of water for tour guests.

What are the mobility, walking and accessibility considerations?
The City of Arcades Food Experience, Welsh Food Tour, Cardiff Tasting Tour and Cardiff Lunch & Landmarks Tour involve walking so participants with walking difficulties may struggle to get the best out of the tour. All walking tours are run at a leisurely pace.  We stand in some venues and sit down in others.

There is less walking on the Cardiff Lunch & Landmarks – we sit down at all venues visited.

Wheelchair users have taken our tours in the past and with advance notice, we’ve been able to plan to help them get the best out of the tour.
We want our tours to be as accessible to as many people as possible regardless of mobility issues so if you would like to discuss accessibility with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What about bringing children on the tour?
Children aged 12+ accompanied by a responsible adult are welcome to join the City of Arcades Food Experience and Welsh Food Tour.   Children aged 8+ are welcome to join the Cardiff Tasting Tour. Due to space limitations, we can’t accommodate pushchairs on our scheduled tours. However, if you wish to bring children aged under 8, toddlers or babies please get in touch to discuss booking a private tour.

What happens if it rains or snows?
The tours are held come rain, sunshine, or snow. Please dress for the weather conditions and bring an umbrella if necessary.

Payment
Fees are set out clearly in advance for each tour, either on the web pages or (in the case of private tours) in correspondence with Loving Welsh Food. It is the responsibility of customers to ensure that payment is made on booking (or in the case of private tours, as agreed) with Loving Welsh Food.
Bookings for private tours which have not been settled as agreed in advance will be deemed to have self-cancelled unless post event payment has been agreed. We reserve the right to levy an administration charge (minimum £10) where customers have to be chased for payment due to missing agreed deadlines.

Weather Conditions
Tours will take place come rain or shine – unless they present a risk to health and safety. Should the weather situation suggest cancellation is necessary then LWF will contact those with bookings as soon as possible and a full refund or rescheduling will be offered. Rain or cold alone does not constitute a valid reason for cancelling a tour and should you wish to cancel then LWF regrets that a refund cannot be made .

LWF reserves the right to cancel the tour in case of any circumstances beyond our control. In the case of a tour being cancelled every effort will be made to contact you in advance and a choice of full refund or rescheduling will be offered.

NO ALCOHOL TO BE BROUGHT ON A TOUR.

LWF will refuse to take (or will remove from a tour) anyone on a tour who is, or appears to be, under the influence of excessive alcohol or any other intoxicating substance, or anyone whose behaviour is detrimental to the enjoyment of other tour participants, or a risk to their own or others’ safety. Where individuals belong to a group, the whole group will be excluded without refund. This rule is in place in the best interests of all concerned.

Changes to your tour
Sometimes circumstances beyond LWF’s control dictate a last-minute change to the menu or venues visited. Should this occur, alternative venues or menu choices will be provided where possible. The aim of LWF is that you leave having had a wonderful experience and wanting more.

Safety
No matter how much you will be looked after on your visit, ultimately you are responsible for your own personal safety at all times. LWF also asks that you remain vigilant and keep your personal possessions safe. LWF can accept no responsibility for any loss of possessions or for any injury caused by your not taking care when crossing roads or not watching out for obstructions.
