Online Welsh WineTasting & Welshcake Cookalong

Take a sip of your White Castle Welsh wine and let fabulous host Sian Roberts show you how to prepare some warm, festive welshcakes for Christmas.

Travelling is tricky at the moment, but you can still enjoy a wonderful taste of Wales from the safety of your sofa!

Know nothing about Welsh wine? Savour some refreshing Welsh wine while meeting Robb Merchant, owner of Whitecastle vineyard.  Robb will tell you everything you want to know about their quality wines and provide top tips for pairing wines with your meals.

Who doesn’t love a warm Welshcake? Cookalong with Sian as she demonstrates how to make the best welshcakes and chats about Welsh food & drink.

Sian Roberts from Loving Welsh Food has been running food tours and cooking workshops in Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan for just over 5 years.   “Guests always enjoy our traditional recipes – simple to cook and fabulous to eat!   They love finding out about our food heritage and culture, as well as trying to pronounce some of our challenging Welsh words!” 

Whitecastle Vineyard is situated in the beautiful countryside of Monmouthsire near the market town of Abergavenny.  Having purchased the 12 acre small holding in 1995, Robb and Nicola Merchant converted the milking parlour into their home a year later. Sian Roberts – (Loving Welsh Food Owner, Tour Guide, TV and Radio Announcer (BBC, S4C). Sian is the owner of Loving Welsh Food and has travelled all over the world promoting Welsh food and drink. Initially, we had to first of all tell people about Wales as a country – somebody once thought all of the products on display in our Wales Food Drink & mobile kitchen were all products from whales!

Host – Ieuan Rhys (Actor/MC), Doctor Who, Pobol y Cwm, Da Vinci’s Demons, on TV and the big screen. His stage work includes Alan Bennett’s “People” for the National Theatre, many a musical including My Fair Lady, Oliver and over twenty pantomimes. Ieuan is a regular host at the Welsh Banquets at Cardiff Castle. He also works as a Loving Welsh Food guide – enjoying a job where he is paid to eat!

PerformersPhyl (Actor/Musician) and Mags (Harpist) Harries have been making music together for forty years. Mags has performed all over the world, Phyl has worked in theatre, TV and film. Theatre has seen him show his “Bottom” in Shakespeare, as well as performing in “Cyrano”, “Tom – the Musical” and “One man Two Guvnors” . Together Mags and Phyl run the Welsh Banquets at Cardiff Castle and have entertained thousands of happy visitors over the years from all over the
globe.

Ffion Perrett. Ffion is an Operatic Soprano who has recently returned to her hometown of Cardiff after singing and teaching in London for the last six years. She has performed up and down the country as well as abroad. Ffion is excited to be home and reunited with some familiar faces having started her performing career with the rest of the gang at the Welsh banquets in Cardiff Castle aged 15 (we won’t go in to how long ago that was!).
